Religious Education
We at St. Benedict believe that Religious Education begins at home, but partnered with the Church a child may begin their instruction as early as three years old. Our class times and days are varied to accommodate our parishioners’ schedules. You will find registration forms in the Church foyer, or you may call the Religious Education office for more information. We are here to assist our parish families. We strive to provide a loving and nurturing environment for all children to love and grow in the fullness of their faith. Each year, over 200 catechists (men and women) come forward to assist us in the spiritual growth and development of the children. We offer small classes containing two catechist teachers per grade. Since classroom space is limited, priority will be given to families who are active members of St. Benedict. We provide training, support and information on certification for all our catechists.
Catechist Formation
The catechists are trained according to the diocesan directives. We offer five training sessions per year.
Sacrament Preparation
Presently, children receive the sacrament of First Reconciliation and First Communion in the second grade. A child must be enrolled in Religious Education for at least one year prior to beginning preparation for celebration of the sacraments. Parents must attend one of the parent meetings for each sacrament in order for the child to celebrate the sacraments. Children attending Catholic School will celebrate the sacraments here at St. Benedict. Parents must call the office to provide information on these children. Details will be mailed to all eligible, active and participating, families regarding meeting times and celebration dates.
